Severe Acne and dry skin?

I'm in grade 10 and i've had acne since about grade 7. It's all over my foerhead, chin, and cheeks.

I've tried sooo many different products like proactive, neutrogena, clean and clear, pretty much everything you can think of.

My doctor told me to go on the pill to help, i started on Yaz but it did nothing, then i was on Diane 35 but it made me throw up alot and now im on Aless.

I have perscription cream that i put on at night called Differin.

I also wash my face twice a day with a cleanser called Avene.

My skin is ridiculously dry, and no matter how much moisturizer i put on nothing helps.

I just wanna get rid of it! My face is so red and gross its embarassing!

My doctor said the next thing to dry would be Acutane, but it's supposed to be really intense and dries out your skin ALOT but it works. I don't know if i want to try it because it's been known to cause depression and suicide :S

Please Help Me!

Answer:I'm sorry you have been having such a hard time with your skin! I know how hard it is to have acne because I used to have it too.

Having acne at your age is normal (although knowing that doesn't make you feel any better!) As you can see, though, treating teen acne can be tough. Every person's skin is different, and not everyone responds the same to the same treatment. It is trial and error until you find a treatment that really works for you.

Differin is a very common treatment for acne, and for many people it does work. But, as you can see, it can cause dry skin. There are a few things you can do to help calm down the dryness though.

Use only a very gentle cleanser (like Cetaphil or Neutrogena bar). A non-foaming cleanser is usually less drying than a foaming one. Cleanse your face only twice a day (morning and night). If you're feeling really dry, use cleanser only at night and plain water only in the morning.

Moisturize a lot with a noncomedogenic, oil-free moisturizer. I personally like Purpose Redness Reducing Moisturizer, which you can find at any store for about $4, but any gentle, fragrance free product will do.

You can put the moisturizer on before applying your Differin, too. Just wait a few minutes in between.

Peeling skin can GENTLY be sloughed off with a washcloth. But scrubbing too hard at your face will only make redness and peeling worse, so be careful.

Also, if you have only recently started using Differin, know that dryness is worst during the first few weeks of treatment. It usually gets better after that.

If dry skin is making you really uncomfortable, tell your doctor. He/she may suggest you cut back use to every other day until your skin gets less dry.

And don't use any other acne treatment product (cleanser, mask, lotion, etc.) unless your doc specifically tells you to do so.

Keep up with your Differin for a few months before expecting to see results. If your doctor suggests Accutane, do your research and fully understand all side effects first. Yes, it has been linked to depression but in only a very small number of cases (very rare). The good news is it works well in the vast majority of patients. But only you can decide if you want to go this treatment route.

I hope this helps you out. Good luck!

Answer:your doctor doesn't sound like he knows what he's doing tbh, he needs to get you on medication for acne.

i was put on a course of tetralysal 300 - it's a six week course and it worked a treat, ask your doctor about it.

also stop washing your face with products etc as this may be making it worse, also don't wash it too often as this will be depleting your skin of it's natural oils. try using olay too, it's good for dry and sensitive skin. i hope your skin gets better, it's a real down on peoples confidence x

Answer:Go to a Facial Specialist - they can help alot!

Put a bowl of water, preferably cold-ish and put it under every room [if you can] under your radiators, it moists your skin.

Maybe try and use steam, and maybe get a couple of books on Skin Care.

It should get better as you get older!

Answer:my friend has really bad ache and dry skin. To help moisturize she puts this dipryobase cream on before she has a showery or bath as this can really dry out your skin.

she also puts baby oil in her baths and on after every shower.

Answer:I totally relate to your problem as i suffered from acne for six years, it ruined my teenage years, it is something i would wish on nobody!! I reccomened you take your doctors advice and go on the Acutene, true it has been known to cause depression but the statisic is very low! I have a few friends that have been on it for months and months and they feel great and their skin looks great!! Give it a try, if i doesnt work out for you after 3months you can come of it, the only thing that cleared up my acne was going on the contraceptive pill, dianette

Best of look with the Acutane, i really hope it all goes well for you

When your skin clears up you will have soooo much confidence :)

Answer:sorry this is so long first of all =] but i think it will help!

ok well. ive had this problem. ive also had it for about the same time as you. im 16 now and its clearing up becauseeeeeeeee i drink alot of water. the recommended amount which is about 4 bottles of water a day. its really not as bad as it seems. i hated water but now im so used to it, it feels like its the only think thats right for me to drink =P oh and its helped me lose weight you know, stopping the pop diet.

anyway. dont use all that stuff on your face! stop pills and everything. just give this a try seriously. ive tried proactive all that crap too. it gave me allergic reactions (my face swelled up and then it looked like i had a bad sunburn peeling off). just wash your face. morning and night. especially if you wear makeup. in the shower you might want to use soap on it. that worked for me at first but now it makes my skin dry. it all depends on your skin type

for your skin to be healthy and not dry, you have moisturize skin on the inside and outside, hence all the water. youd be surprised how much it helped me. now i barely have a pimple. only those scars.. which i need to find a way to get rid of btw. it helped me like within a week it started getting better.

at night you might want to put some lotion with aloe vera on your face. just a little. dont drench your face in it just put a thin coat on. and maybe you should use some in the morning after you wash your face. but if it burns stop. it caused an allergic reaction for me.

so yeah. lotion. wash face. drink plenty of water.

and i hope this helps!!

Answer:Ouch. Hmmm… that's a tough one. I have the dry skin but not so much the acne… My sister used to have really bad acne though. idk if you're into home remedies o not but this really helped her out. For her acne she used to put a little bit of lemon juice on each pimple every other night because it would dry out the acne. Only thing about this is if you get it on the rest of your skin, it can become kinda dry, that's why she did this ever other night :)

And for my dry skin, I either buy a mud mask at Wal-mart and apply that once a week- the mask packets usually last me about 2-3 weeks, and they're about $2 by the make up department or bath area ( I love the chocolate one or this blue one sorry but I forgot what the blue one was called)- or I make my own. My favorite would have to be pureeing a banana in the blender with Vanilla yogurt and leaving that on for about 10-20 minutes. It helps my skin get a little better without making it dry again after a few hours like neutrogena did to me. Also, if you take hot showers/baths STOP or at least don't direct the hot water to your face. You ,might als want to check out some sites on eczema for solutions for dry skin- that's what I have.

I hope I was able to help you out at least a little bit. Good luck :)

Answer:There is this new popular cream that people have been talking about.

It prevents future and existing acne, diminishes scars, and lightens skin and blemishes. Fast results too! (It's been claimed that major results can be seen within a week and no later than two weeks)

Before and After photos are available at the given ebay site.

This person is providing 1-3 week trial samples (Only for ONE DOLLAR.. definitely a deal) on ebay at:

Search up "Cee En's Acne Solution" on ebay.

First 100 customers can get the item for $1 for one week trial and up to 3 weeks. Or you can purchase 1 month supply for $40, 3 month for $100, or 6 month supply for $150

It's expensive, but the product DOES work.

My sister and cousin who both have major acne have tried the product and they both give it thumbs up. I have also heard many great feedbacks about this cream.

I don't have a problem with acne, but it seems to have great results on my sister who has moderate to severe acne. Her acne swelling went away overnight.

check the seller's feedbacks on the cream

I hope this helps. =)
